FAQ:Why isn't Wintest connecting?
From TimeMinder Help
Wintest is the connection program for all TM06K clocks. If you can't connect to these clocks through wintest, you won't be able to download, and vice-versa.
As with all Hardware/connection issues, you should begin by resetting the clock by physically opening the clock and resetting it. (NEVER press reset in the software)
Network Connection
1. Find out the network (IP) address of your clock. If you dont have a record of this, you can manually reset the clock and the network address will display on its screen. The network address will be in the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, often 192.xxx.xxx.xxx or 10.xxx.xxx.xxx
2. Ping this address by clicking Start-> Run in 'Windows' then typing cmd and pressing enter
Then type 'ping' followed by the network address of the clock
If this gives "no response" then there is a problem with the network connection between the clock and the computer in question. Possible reasons for this are (in order of probability):
- Disconnected cable somewhere along the line (check whether computer is connected to network), Check whether Clock connection light is green on inside of clock
- Incorrect Clock address (double check address displayed when clock is reset)
- Clock is on a different network (Problem that can occur in large companies/complex network setup - talk to your Network Engineer/IT department)
- Clock is broken/damaged
If you succesfully ping the clock (it will give a response time in milliseconds), then go into the wintest program. Click on Socket -> Properties then change host address to the clock network address. The value underneath should be unchanged, at 1024.
Then click Socket->Connect
If this does not work, try re-installing wintest and the wintest registration file:
http://timeminder.com.au/beta/wintest.msi
http://timeminder.com.au/beta/mswinsock.reg
Simply click on each link and run them when they download.
Then repeat the steps above from where you open Wintest.
Serial Connection
1. Check that the Clock is properly connected.
2. If you have a Serial-USB connection, the COM port may change occasionally. To find the correct COM port number, Click Start, then Right Click My Computer, then Select the Hardware tab, then Click Device Manager then select Ports. This will give you a list of available COM ports. The correct COM port will be labeled 'Serial to USB adapter' or something similar.
3. Once you have the correct COM port, run Wintest.exe and select CommPort -> Properties. change the commport setting to the correct COM port number.
4. Click Commport->Connect
